UK approves gas production at Jackdaw field
The UK government has approved gas production at the Jackdaw field in the North Sea, saying it could supply British homes and businesses by the end of this month or during the winter.
Jackdaw is in the North Sea. Gas may reach homes this month. Or in winter.
Miatta Fahnbulleh supported the decision. She is Energy Secretary.
She said it supports energy security. She said it fits climate plans.
The UK still plans net zero by 2050.
Jackdaw may raise gas output by 6%. It may protect jobs.
Andy Burnham said oil will remain important. Gas will remain important too.
This may last for decades. The UK is moving to renewable energy.
Zack Polanski criticised the approval. He called it “climate vandalism”.
He said Shell won. He said the public lost.
