Healey announces energy support for millions of UK households
Chancellor John Healey has announced a £2.6 billion package to help poorer households with energy bills.
The Government plans to give £100 this winter. About 20 million homes will get it.
Their council tax bands are A to D. The money will help with home costs.
Higher bank taxes will help pay for it.
Healey plans to ask Ofgem. Ofgem may remove gas standing charges.
This may happen in 2027 or soon after. About 23 million homes pay these charges.
They pay them with little or no gas use.
The Office for Budget Responsibility changed growth forecasts.
It raised 2026 growth from 1.1% to 1.2%. It lowered 2027 growth from 1.6% to 1.0%.
