Conservatives demand Healey resign over defence spending plan
The Conservatives say John Healey must resign if Wednesday’s Budget does not include a fully funded plan to raise defence spending to 3% of GDP by 2030.
Andrew Griffith spoke about the Budget.
He said Healey must fund defence fully.
The target is 3% of GDP.
The target is for 2030.
If not, Healey must resign.
Griffith said the country faced “extraordinary threats”.
He said Healey delayed money decisions.
The Office for Budget Responsibility gave an estimate.
Defence needs £17.3bn more in 2029 to 2030.
More defence money may come through two groups.
They are the National Wealth Fund and British Business Bank.
The defence amount is not confirmed.
James Cartlidge criticised the missing plan.
He called it a “dereliction of duty”.
